Pegasus Reef Hotel is one of Sri Lanka's most storied beachfront resorts - a coastal institution with over 50 years of hospitality heritage, situated just 30 minutes from Bandaranaike International Airport and 25 minutes from Colombo city centre. Despite its landmark status, the hotel's digital presence was falling well short of its physical experience: an outdated website with a non-functioning booking engine was costing the property direct reservations and failing to reflect the quality of what guests found on arrival. TekGeeks undertook a full digital transformation by delivering a new website, an integrated live booking engine, ongoing SEO, and a Google Ads campaign, converting Pegasus Reef's online presence into a measurable revenue channel.
In a highly competitive Colombo hospitality market where global chains and well-funded local properties dominate search results, Pegasus Reef's previous website was actively working against it. Visitors who found the property online had no way to convert as the booking engine was non-functional, leaving potential guests to either call, abandon the process entirely, or book through third-party OTAs (online travel agencies, such as Booking.com or Agoda) at significantly higher commission costs.
The centrepiece of the revamp was the integration of the Exely hotel management and booking platform replacing a completely non-functional engine with a live, real-time reservation system that allows guests to check availability, select room types, apply packages, and confirm bookings directly on the site, recovering direct booking revenue that was previously lost to OTAs or abandoned entirely.
Dedicated pages for each room category (Deluxe, Deluxe Twin, and Premium) present accommodation options with full amenity details, visual assets, and direct booking calls-to-action. Tailored package pages (including Honeymoon, Kids Stay Free, and Day Out packages) surface high-margin offerings to visitors at the precise point of intent.
Four distinct dining experiences i.e Sand & Spice, The Fishery, The Lobby Bar & Lounge, and Salt Theory Beach Bar, each receive dedicated content sections, communicating the property's F&B depth to both in-house guests and local diners, supporting a revenue stream beyond room bookings.
A structured Experiences section showcases the full breadth of on-site and curated off-site activities, from the Kurulu Kele nature reserve and beach paddle tennis to Muthurajawela boat tours and sunset cruises, positioning Pegasus Reef as a destination rather than a stopover, and directly supporting longer stays and day-out package uptake.
Dedicated sections for wedding packages and corporate or social events address two of the hotel's highest-value revenue categories, with clear package information and inquiry pathways, supporting a keyword strategy that has driven six category-specific search terms to position one on Google.
A structured ongoing SEO programme has delivered six keywords to the number one position on Google and placed 52% of the tracked keyword portfolio within the top three results, including high-commercial-intent terms such as "Wattala Wedding Hotels", "Hotels In Wattala For Weddings", "Day Out Packages In Wattala", and "Affordable Wedding Venues". The site's Domain Authority has grown to 29 with a backlink profile of 4,596 links across 565 referring domains.
An actively managed Google Ads campaign delivers a 13.43% click-through rate well above the hospitality industry average - at an average cost per click of $0.11, with a Return on Ad Spend of 22.69x. The campaign generated 1,951 clicks in May 2026 alone, with 79.6% of traffic arriving via mobile, reflecting the browsing behaviour of the hotel's target audience.
